Peter de Been

Pete is a 5th degree Black Belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. and is the pioneer of Jiu Jitsu in Australia, establishing the country's first academy in 1993. Over the years Pete has had the pleasure of teaching and coaching the greatest Jiu Jitsu fighters and instructors Australia has to offer.

Max de Been

In June 2017, Max became Australia's youngest Black belt at the age of 20. He entered his first Jiu Jitsu competition in 2000 and has been Pan Pacific Champion more than 10 times, as well as third in the World Blue Belt in 2012. He has won numerous titles and is believed to be Australia's best chance to be the first Black Belt World Champion

Blue belt program (beginners)

Our Blue Belt Program teaches basic techniques, fundamentals and strategies that allow the new student to build great foundations and ultimately achieve their Blue Belt. We fully recognise how important it is to develop correct foundations as early as possible. In our experience we have seen many students who unfortunately have not had the correct early development, causing difficulties later.

Our Juniors program is a state-of-the art program that has delivered great success. Not only in competition, where the de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu Junior team remains undefeated in Victorian State and Pan Pacific championship for over 20 years, but also success in forming wonderfully balanced and confident individuals.

Creating confidence, developing proprioception, building agility and strength, caring for others and building to future goals are all foundations that we take very seriously in our Junior program. An example of our commitment is the establishment of the Worlds first Junior Elite Team program

Our general/advanced program represents the pinnacle of de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu. You will learn advanced techniques, strategies and also do great deal of sparring/rolling.

Beginners are welcome to attend these classes. Our experienced students are very welcoming and helpful as the de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu family has been brought up caring and nurturing new members.

No Gi

No Gi classes are for those who wish to learn Jiu Jitsu without wearing the traditional gi or kimono, but rather in shorts and rash guard. Some students prefer No Gi and others prefer Gi, however we believe that to gain the most from our Jiu Jitsu it is best to experience both Gi and No Gi classes.

Most will consider the pinnacle of de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu as its Competition Program. It is true that under extreme pressure we quickly learn the difference between techniques and strategies that are fun and those that deliver what we hope.

Not everyone is interested in practicing competition Jiu Jitsu but everyone is welcome - even beginners. Many AFBJJ competitions in Australia and even IBJJF events around the World have competitions for novice.
