Starting off in any martial art is always tricky, as you don’t really know what is a good school and what is a not so good school. BJJ has a governing body established to monitor Official Academies and there ranks. The governing body is called the ‘Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu jitsu” (AFBJJ). We have been a long term member of the AFBJJ since 1997. Before you start training Jiu Jitsu, make sure your school is affiliated with the afbjj, to ensure authentic BJJ. See Below for what BJJ classes we have on offer.
de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu Cairns also operates are Fusion Fight and Fitness
Our basics class where focus is placed on movements, basic techniques and drills. Definitely a class every one can benefit from and is highly recommended for beginners to understand key concepts.
Available upon request.
Our BJJ classes are all taught in the Gi. We focus heavily on positional control, escapes, defense, attacks, drills, and an emphasis on repetition. A sure way of learning techniques, based on leverage and technique instead of strength to beat much bigger opponents with ease.
Open Mat sessions are open format classes, where students can do GI or NO-GI sparring rounds, or work with others to drills to work on some of the finer details that may be lacking from their game.
Future Champions and Anti-Bullying Program.
To excel in any endeavor, individuals need to have a strong set of values, solid character and personal skills that gives them perseverance to achieve their goals. Our Future Champions and Anti-Bullying Program was created to provide children aged 5-14 with an environment that allows them to experience and understand core values like focus, discipline, persistence, cooperation and respect.
Children will gain confidence and learn self-defense from drilling proven techniques as well as participating in fun developmental games designed to engage the body in movements and positions in Jiu Jitsu, all under the guidance of North Queensland’s highest ranked Instructors.
Although a contact sport, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides a safe and caring environment, which also challenges your child mentally and physically, shaping them to into real life champions both on and off the mats.
The outcome of continued childhood practice of Jiu Jitsu goes far beyond the accomplishments on the mats. The discipline and excellence demanded by our instructors often carries over to the child’s behaviour at home and at school. Children will feel valued, help build camaraderie, make life long friends and be apart of a family- not just a team.
Benefits your children will gain from our Future Champions and Anti-Bullying Program:
Improve children’s social skills
Better understanding of setting and achieving goals
Increase focus, energy and concentration
Enjoy significant gains in overall fitness level
What will happen on my first visit?
Upon entering the Academy, you will be greeted by one of our friendly Instructors, coaches or assistants. After the initial introduction you and your children will be given a brief introduction of the facility and be shown where you can leave any personal belongings.
We advise on arriving 10 minutes before the class begins to settle in and discuss any questions you or your children may have and to prepare for the class.
At the commencement of the class, the Instructor, Coach or Assistant will invite you onto the mat and the class will begin. We recommend parents watch the entire class.
