During an Open Mat Session students are able to teach one another, drill techniques, free roll or simply just watch and learn. You can come and go as you please throughout an Open Mat Session, some members use these sessions as another opportunity to get extra time to roll each week.

Head Instructor Profile.

Chep Krummel is Head Coach at our Hervey Bay Academy.

Chep is a Brown Belt in Brasilian Jiu Jitsu and founded the very first Brasilian Jiu Jitsu Academy in Hervey Bay in November 2011.

Chep first experienced the Brasilian martial art growing up in Maryborough, Queensland in 2002. Initially the style was very frustrating for him as he had never experienced being totally dominated and submitted before. Chep remembered many times, feeling frustrated, chlostrophobic and humbled by the techniques and eventually gave up after only a few short months.

After training in different martial arts disciplines including karate, boxing, mma and muay thai, Chep became more passionate about the Brasilian martial arts style and began to pursue a new direction under the guidance of his coach at the time BJJ Black Belt Marcus Collings. He was promoted to Blue Belt by Marcus in September 2012.

After training, competing and establishing a successful club for approximately 3 years Chep was promoted to Purple Belt by the President of the Australian Federation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (AFBJJ)- Peter de Been in September 2014. Less then two years later, in May 2016 Peter de Been promoted Chep to Brown Belt.

Chep’s development in BJJ is greatly influenced by his current friends and coaches BJJ Brown Belts Brian and Edward Nielsen. Two other coaches which have greatly influenced Chep are Black Belts Andrew Bailey and Yoshinori Hasegawa.

Chep is a very passionate coach and mentor to his students and continues to contribute to spreading the sport of BJJ in the Fraser Coast, Queensland.
